The Experience
Wilderness, adventure and the Hunter Valley at your doorstep
Wildwood Lodge sits within one of Australia's most extraordinary wilderness settings — 300 hectares of untouched bushland where the wildlife is genuinely wild and the landscape is unchanged. But the experience extends well beyond the property boundary. Adventure, stillness, world-class wine and some of NSW's most beautiful country are all within reach.
The Wildlife
Kangaroos and wallabies graze on the lawn at dusk. Echidnas forage through the grass. Goannas over three metres long move through the bush with quiet authority. Wedge-tailed eagles, kookaburras and a remarkable variety of native birdlife fill the trees from first light. Wildlife here is not a highlight — it's a daily rhythm.
The Skies
Wedge-tailed eagles circle overhead on the thermals, surveying the valley below. King parrots, rosellas and dozens of native species move through the canopy around the lodge. The dawn chorus here is unlike anything you'll hear in the city.
The Landscape
300 hectares. Views to the World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park. Unchanged and untouched.
To rewild is to step back from the noise and pace of everyday life and return to something more essential. It's slower mornings, longer meals, and time spent watching the world move at its own rhythm. At Wildwood, rewilding isn't a concept — it's just what happens when you arrive.
What does it mean to rewild?
Explore The Resort
The Moonabung Trail
Trace the edge of the mountain along the Moonabung Trail — steep climbs, volcanic rock formations, grass trees and sweeping views the whole way. Allow 1-2 hours. Medium to high fitness recommended.
The Rainforest
Venture down into the sub-tropical White Rock Trail rainforest — Moreton Bay figs, strangler figs, epiphytes and ferns in a lush and ancient landscape. A world apart from the open mountain above.
The Lagoon
Goonarook Lagoon sits at the heart of the resort — a freshwater swimming hole perfect for a morning kayak or an afternoon of fishing. Kayaks are available for guest use.
The Views
From the Mount George Lookout, the views stretch all the way to the World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park. On clear days the landscape feels endless.
The Pool
Cool off in the saltwater swimming pool. The perfect reward after a morning on the trails.
Tennis
A championship tennis court is available for guest use. Racquets and balls are supplied at the lodge.
Games Lodge
Pool table and table tennis for those evenings when the deck isn't enough. Friendly competition encouraged.
The Playground
A children's playground within the resort grounds — keeping the little ones entertained while the grown-ups unwind.
The Region
World-class wine, country pubs and day trips worth taking
Wine Country
The Hunter Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most celebrated wine regions, and it's on your doorstep. World-class chardonnay, semillon and shiraz producers are within easy reach of Wildwood Lodge — perfect for a day of cellar door visits and long lunches.
For something closer and more hidden, Lambs Valley Road winds through one of the region's most beautiful and little-known valleys to a handful of boutique producers worth seeking out.
We can arrange private wine tours with direct pickup from Wildwood Lodge on request — just ask when you book.
The Surrounds
Beyond the mountain, the Hunter Valley Hinterland has its own quiet charm. The township of Paterson is a 20-minute drive with a well-stocked supermarket and the beloved Paterson Tavern & Bistro. The village of Vacy is just minutes away — stop into the Vacy General Store for coffee, homemade pies and a taste of genuine country life.
