The Wild
Where Australia looks the way it always has
The conservation land surrounding Wildwood Lodge has never been developed.
What you find here is genuinely untouched — 300 hectares of Australian wilderness where the animals roam freely and the landscape is unchanged. This is not curated nature. This is the real thing.
The Wildlife
Kangaroos and wallabies graze on the lawn at dusk. Echidnas forage through the grass. Goannas over three metres long move through the bush with quiet authority. Kookaburras, wedge-tailed eagles and a remarkable variety of native birdlife fill the trees from first light. Wildlife here is not a highlight — it's a daily rhythm.
The Skies
Wedge-tailed eagles circle overhead on the thermals, surveying the valley below. King parrots, rosellas and dozens of native species move through the canopy around the lodge. The dawn chorus here is unlike anything you'll hear in the city.
The Landscape
300 hectares. Views to the World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park. Unchanged and untouched.
Explore
The Rainforest
Venture down into the sub-tropical White Rock Trail rainforest — Moreton Bay figs, strangler figs, epiphytes and ferns in a lush and ancient landscape. A world apart from the open mountain above.
The Lagoon
Goonarook Lagoon sits at the heart of the resort — a freshwater swimming hole perfect for a morning kayak or an afternoon of fishing. Kayaks are available for guest use.
The Views
From the Mount George Lookout, the views stretch all the way to the World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park. On clear days the landscape feels endless.
The Moonabung Trail
Trace the edge of the mountain along the Moonabung Trail — steep climbs, volcanic rock formations, grass trees and sweeping views the whole way. Allow one to two hours. Medium to high fitness recommended. One of the most rewarding walks in the region.
